November 2024 35th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall It’s been 35 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent collapse of an entire political system. These events marked the high point of what came to be known as the Peaceful Revolution in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The tremendous courage of those who took a stand against the GDR dictatorship – and the joy felt around the world at the highly symbolic breach of the Iron Curtain on 9 November 1989 – would go down in history. BERLIN’S 775TH ANNIVERSARY For one full weekend in 2012, Berlin celebrated its 775th anniversary, took a look back at its eventful history and called for even more tolerance and openness to the world. 125th Anniversary of Ku’damm Boulevard The 125th anniversary celebrations paid homage to the fashionable “showcase of the West” and brought a new shine to the Ku’damm. Day of German Unity, Berlin 2018 Over the course of three full days, Berlin joined with hundreds of thousands of people to celebrate 28 years of unity and freedom in Germany and Europe. 100th Anniversary of the Bauhaus in Berlin For Berliners, the city-wide week of Bauhaus-themed events under the banner “bauhauswoche berlin 2019” was the highlight of the nationwide celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the legendary art and design school. 100th Anniversary of the 1918/19 Revolution in Berlin This joint city-wide project brought the epoch-making power of the 1918/19 Revolution to the streets of Berlin. 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall In 2009, the yearlong celebrations marking the “20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall” attracted an audience of millions and pushed Berlin to the forefront of worldwide attention. 25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall Highly moving images from the key event marking the anniversary were seen by an audience of more than a million people in Germany and abroad. 50th Anniversary of the Building of the Berlin Wall We joined with the Berlin Wall Foundation to pay tribute to the victims of the Berlin Wall and the division of Germany in a very special way. 75th Anniversary of the End of WWII Berlin commemorated the end of WWII and the liberation of Europe from Nazi dictatorship with a week of theme-based digital events. MAI ’45 – SPRINGTIME IN BERLIN The Second World War came to an end in Berlin on 2 May 1945. Seventy years later, at key spaces throughout the city, we set up several large-scale panorama photos that portrayed a destroyed urban landscape – but also the hopes of its inhabitants.
