125th Anniversary of Ku’damm Boulevard

The 125th anniversary celebrations paid homage to the fashionable “showcase of the West” and brought a new shine to the Ku’damm.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, many West Berliners travelled to East Berlin to see the popular boulevards at Friedrichstraße, Unter den Linden and Alexanderplatz, but just as many West Berliners stayed true to their favourite promenade in the West. Back in 2011, we joined with a number of partners ranging from the district office of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf to local business people and institutions, such as the Berlin State Archive, to remember the glamorous decades of the Ku’damm and to bring a new shine to the once vibrant boulevard. Over the course of 178 days, more than one million visitors made their way to the area known as “City West” to take part in 802 events.
