To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the partnership between Windhoek and Berlin as twin cities, the pop-up exhibition “REFRAME Namibia” will show pictures by the REFRAME collective. The works by Namibian photographers between the ages of seventeen and thirty-seven deal with personal stories as well as social structures and therefore provide a wide-ranging view of life in Namibia today. As well as the pieces by the REFRAME collective, the exhibition will also show the photo series “Shadows of the Past” by Julia Runge. This series explores questions about Namibia’s colonial past and its repercussions, and translates these into contemporary visual language.

In the artist talk, Julia Runge will describe how the exhibition was created and how its thematic focuses were chosen. She will provide context for the exhibited works, explain the background of the project and at the same time introduce the work of the REFRAME collective – an initiative that promotes young photographers from Namibia and gives visibility to contemporary African visual languages.

Participation in the event is free. Registration is not required.
